Radon Testing
40% of homes in the Piedmont Triad area have radon levels above the US EPA level of 4.0 picocuries per liter, according to the Forsyth County Department of Health. This is important to homebuyers, because radon is the air borne gas by-product of uranium and research shows that radon is a carcinogen.
The good news for homebuyers is that radon, while common in Winston-Salem and the Piedmont Triad area, is easily measured and if radon is present, easily mitigated. A modest investment in a radon test protects you and your family from a known health hazard and from bearing the costs of eventual radon remediation.
Around the Home Inspections performs what is called a short term test, typical for real estate purchase transactions. Our testing methods utilize the Rad Elec E-perm system, a professional radon testing system that gives quick, accurate results. The test involves using two testing canisters placed in the lowest potential living level of the home. The canisters results are averaged, recording the concentration of radon in the home over a period of at least 48 hours. Radon test results are usually received approximately 24 hours after test pick-up.
